Contrary to popular belief, St Mark’s and other churches like it are not funded by the Central Government. We have to pay our own way, including paying the cost of the ministry of a Parish Priest and maintaining a large and beautiful building. St Mark’s is listed as Grade 2* which means we are sometimes eligible for some grant support. However, much of our income has to come from regular worshippers.
St Mark’s is a church with a fascinating heritage and a bright future. We seek to serve our community by providing pastoral support and community facilities that are of a high standard and are also accessible to all.
So, even if you are not a regular church-goer or even a Christian, we do ask for your support to ensure that this fabulous building remains here for the present and future generations as a community resource.
We are now at a point when we need to re-invest for the future. The basic cost of keeping St Mark’s alive as a community is about £400 per day. We are not in the business of simply keeping things going. We have real ambitions that are already bearing fruit. The worship is of a high standard with exceptionally good music. We seek to grow as a Church and as a community institution and care provider. We are already providing opportunities for young musicians in the form of choral and organ scholarships and for recitalists.
Many people think that we are funded by Central Government. We are not. Every penny that needs to be spent is raised through the giving of the congregation and through the hiring of our hall.
You can make a real difference to the life of this church by donating money. Our core costs are Ministry, Fabric and Music. You can choose to donate to any of those, or to make a more specific donation.
Anything you can give will be received with much gratitude and will make a difference to the life and work of this Church.
It is possible to give by Standing Order (there is a link below which gives you details). Standing Orders are beneficial not only to the beneficiary but also to the benefactor as they can be set to be regular amounts which helps us all to budget. You might want to make occasional donations via PayPal - a link to that is below too.
